My Baby is a Model: A Moms Story
by: Lisa Moran
Scott is only 8 months old but he's been with an agency from the Boston area since the end of March 2006. He started modeling at five and a half months of age and has already done print work for a member newsletter for Insurance Company. The campaign runs over the next 2 years so his face will be in different ones during that time period. He's also had 2 other auditions - one for video & the other for print, but no luck there...yet!
Scott has always been a very expressive baby & was just really good natured-everytime we saw the Huggies commercial with the baby signing up for that "aerobic kickboxing class". We laughed and said, "Scott can do that". So we decided to see what we could find.
I searched the Internet and found a couple agencies in Boston that use babies. One of them holds open calls twice a month. So I grabbed a bunch of snapshots the weekend before we went, cropped them really close and made sure they were clear with great color, picking three to take with us. I have to admit that his Dad and I were feeling a little strange thinking we might be being a little vain and shallow but we figured, "hey, it'll be a fun day in the city if nothing else comes of it".
I went to the open call & found a line out the building and onto the sidewalk. Wow, we didn't have a chance! The rep told us what her clients look for and showed us work that the kids have done, explaining how the babies are marketed in a baby book. The book has headshots of babies listed with the agency and the clients have access to that. She did say that the market is fickle and part-time for kids this age. After that the owner and the rep met with each one of us alone and just asked questions, reviewed the photo's and said they'd call in the next few days if we were selected. If we were not called we could try again in 6 months. Well we got the call at 9 o’clock the next morning and our first audition was the next week.
As soon as we got the call of acceptance from the agency, I had Scott’s professional headshots done. This was not required by our agency but the pictures come out so much nicer. We have to submit one 8x10 photograph with all of Scott's information on it every three months due to the changes a baby goes through.
We did pay the agency a minimal one time set up fee to cover marketing expenses but we will never have to pay it again I checked the agency out with the BBB and the state of Massachusetts licensing and labor relations page, and found they were very reputable. The other agencies I initially found looked a little shady but I can’t say for sure. We have had a great experience with the agency we were selected by, Dynasty Models & Talent.
I get nervous when we receive a call from the agency. It’s exciting to think about my little guy in ads for others to see plus he makes some college money too. I'm very fortunate that he is so good-natured and really doesn't mind people. He's very social so that helps at a shoot. He has done one real job that paid $85 per hour for a two-hour minimum. The people were nice and know babies quite well, including the fact that they drool a lot, so breaks are given to make it easy. The work for the project involves waiting, getting a great simple plain neutral wardrobe and keeping him happy. If he ever gets to the point where I'm dragging him off to do this I know it'll be time to stop. It's just like sports or anything else. I figure I can't force him to do something he really doesn't enjoy just because I want him to be a RED SOX pitcher - you know what I mean. The same goes for modeling.
I can't wait to see his first completed project. It was just shot at the of May and should be out in August or September. I am just so proud of him everyday and grateful he's such a good little man!

I too have been told that I should get my kids (Jadyn 6 months and Jordyn 4 years) into modeling etc. Both kids are outgoing and very expressive. I have been looking on the internet forever it seems .. can't seem to find anything in Dallas, TX. I thought TX was a good place for modeling. I do not want to buy into those sites which require you to pay them. Any suggestions in the Dallas area would be much appreciated. |

I so happy for all those who babies have an agency. Good job! Well, let me start off by saying its rough not hearing a thing from any agency as you look/ask/look/ask. I entered Brianni in a couple of baby pictures, later found out the contest was rigged. I jumped off imediately... a friend of mind sent me to this OCB website. I have to say I felt very left out for awhile because I knew my baby had some really great photos but she wasn't winning anything. It felt as though OCB site was for a certain click, but after questioning and getting to learn/meet some really cool parents, I was ok.
To: fporter2, lilmikey101, joannab, corey9979, I did branch off and started looking for any agency willing to give Brianni a shot. Well, my two months of looking paid off with the help of mychildmodel.com. You can go to www.exploretalent or www.myshildmodel.com. Both websites are really good. They had me to take some pictures of Brianni with Carter's wear...I had no clue as to what they were looking for far as her posing. Brianni shocked me when I started taken her pictures. Shes a natural..I asked everyone which pictures they'd like before I email them to the company. Within a week, Brianni was in Carter's clothes wear (Tunic 2 piece outwear). A couple of agency wants Brianni But Orion & Elite Agency made a keen interest. They love her pictures, her big beautiful eyes, they said she has personality and that they will signed her to their contract with Orion or Elite Talent Agency. I can't wait for this strike to be over. Parents to Parents Its a long road for anyone trying to get their foot in the door. But keep trying, someone will eventually see your cuties. The key word is never give up. God Bless Everyone... You must keep your faith! |

My son also works with dynasty in Boston, Ma. They have a website, dynastymodels.com. They tell you how to get started. Another place is Model Club, but not to sure of their info. Maybe ModelClub.com. Out of MA, google Baby Modeling agencies in your state. Good luck to all! |
